"Lathroum Prevails for Career First Late Model Title"

By Doug Watson

Budds Creek, MD-  Cumberland Md's Matt Cosner scored the Late Model win in last Saturday nights 35-lap "Larry Hills Memorial" at Potomac Speedway. The win for Cosner, steering his potent Rocket no.66C, was worth $3000 and it would also mark his first career feature win at the venerable Southern Maryland oval.
Cosner drew the pole for the start of the event and would burst into the lead on the first lap and eventually lead the distance. Newly crowned Delaware International Speedway Late Model champion Amanda Whaley chased Cosner for the final ten-laps, but was no match for Cosner as he clearly had the car to beat. Jamie Lathroum took third with Dale Hollidge and 9th starting Kyle Lear rounding out the top-five. With his 3rd place effort, Jamie Lathroum was crowned the 2019 track champion. Heats for the 23 cars entered went to Lathroum, Cosner and Daryl Hills.
Dale Hollidge drove to his 4th win of the season in the companion 25-lap RUSH Late Model main. Hollidge drove into the lead on the first lap and would lead to the finish over runner-up Ben Bowie. Matt Hill, Jeremy Pilkerton and Darren Alvey completed the top-five. With his 5th place finish, Darren Alvey wrapped up his second career RUSH Late Model track title. Heats went to Hollidge and Hill.
In support class action, Craig Parrill drove to his first win of the season in the 16-lap Street Stock feature, Jonathan Knott collected his 2nd win of the season in the 15-lap Hobby Stock main, John Hardesty nailed down his 7th win of 2019 in the 15-lap Strictly Stock event with Cody Stamp claiming his 6th win of the season in the 15-lap U-Car contest. Ed Pope Jr. collected his second-straight and third career Street Stock championship, Mikey Latham secured his second consecutive Hobby Stock crown, John Hardesty took his second straight and career 5th Strictly Stock title with Sophomore sensation Cody Stamp securing his first career U-Car championship.
