The Appalachian Mountain Speedweek is ready to kick-off 2013 with its first visit to Potomac Speedway…
For the first time since its inception, the Harbaugh Amusement Machine presented Appalachian Mountain Speedweek will take the green flag at Greg Gunter's Potomac Speedway. The 5th annual edition of the week long miniseries will visit the Budds Creek, Maryland facility for the first time on Friday, May 31st and will kick off what has become one of the most exciting six days of Late Model racing in the Mid-Atlantic. With the Friday travel a little harder for some, Track owner Greg Gunter & General Manager Denise Hollidge have graciously doubled the series mandated tow money for non-qualifiers at Potomac guaranteeing that every participant will leave with at least $100 for their participation. A great field of cars is expected for the $5,000 to win, 40 lap event that will kick-off six straight nights of racing. The series will then move to Hagerstown Speedway, Winchester Speedway, Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex and Port Royal Speedway before ending at Lincoln Speedway on Wednesday, June 5th for the $7,000 to win "Charging" Charlie Grinestaff Memorial.
"We are really excited to be starting off at Potomac" said series Co-Founder Kurt Smith. "I know Potomac is a little tough to get to on a Friday but we hope that the point money payouts at the end of the series will more than make up for that. I think you will see a lot of great regional racers in the Potomac pit area next Friday night. Greg & Denise are just great to work with and it was their idea to double the tow money. They really are thankful for the drivers that follow the series and will race with us at Potomac. The series will also have a random draw to give away a couple of tires to cars that run the B-main yet do not make the series" added Smith.
A lot is on the line starting at Potomac with over $12,000 in prize money & product sponsorship to be divided out among the top eight drivers in points at the end of the six day series. Many other prizes and awards are also available to the competitors.
"We have a great group of sponsors that help us put this week on for the competitors and fans" stated series Technical Director Jason Clapper. "Kurt, Bill(Funk) & I have worked really hard the past six months getting ready for this week. Without Bob and Diane Harbaugh there is no way we could do this. Their generosity is second to none. We have great sponsors that will provide cash incentives as well as great product sponsors all geared towards the competitors that support the series" said Clapper.
