Final Points Show 9/12/08

Potomac Speedway is gearing up for its final points show of the 2008 racing season on Friday Night September 12, 2008. Six classes are scheduled for there final points event to determine a Champion.The Late Models, Street Stocks, Hobbystocks, Strictly Stocks, Hornets and Modifieds will be on hand.

The Late Models will be running a 20 lap feature event. Current points leader Paul Cursey has only a slim 14 points lead over second place Tommy Wagner. Who will it be, is the question.The Coors Light Street Stocks see current points leader P.J. Hatcher with a 41 point advantage over second place Chuck Bowie with Kyle Nelson still in stricking distance only 63 points out of the top spot, after this 16 lap main who will br crowned, Anything can happen in this division.The Sunoco Race Fuel Hobbystocks see Scotty Nelson leading the way going into the final show with a 75 points advantage over second place Jason Murphy.The Modified divsion has Brett Hamilton leading the way and will be crowned the 08 Champion.Second place James Marshall sits 186 points shy of Hamilton , too many points to make up.The Strictly Stock division has John Hardisty as the current points leader only by a slim 9 points over second place Kyle Vantassel.The Hornets see Buddy Dunagan with a 34 points lead over second place Chad Medina. Five of the Six division will be interesting to watch to determine the Championship.

Demolition Derbys 9/6 & 9/13

The Silver Hill Lions Club are gearing up for there annual Demolition Derby's on Saturday September 6 and Saturday September 13 at Potomac Speedway, Budds Creek MD.

Stectator Gates open at 5:30 and crashing begins at 7pm. Arrive early to get the best seats. Pit admission is $25.00, grandstand admission for adults is $17.00 with children 10 and under $8.00 Handicapp parking and seating is available.

Budds Creek, MD- Avenue Maryland’s David William capped-off a career season as he
not only took his fourth win of the season in last Sunday night’s 44-lap Ronnie
McBee Memorial, but he was also crowned the 2008 Potomac speedway late model track
champion.
Avenue Maryland’s David William capped-off a career season as he not only took his
fourth win of the season in last Sunday night’s 44-lap Ronnie McBee Memorial, but
he was also crowned the 2008 Potomac speedway late model track champion.
Williams left little doubt he had the car to beat as he blasted from his pole
starting spot to grab the top spot on lap one. From there on out it was a race for
second the entire event. Third starting Steven Axtell Jr. held the second spot for
much of the event until fifth starting Roy Deese Jr. slid by to take the spot on the
20th lap. Deese, Who was crowned the Hagerstown (MD) speedway late model champion on
Saturday night, tried valiantly to unseat Williams from the lead, but Williams was
not to be denied as he would take the checkered flag for his 22nd career Potomac
late model feature win and his first-ever McBee memorial trophy. “This was a total
team effort this season.” Williams stated from Potomac’s victory lane. “Jamie
(Lathroum) really came on strong here at the end of the season and he made us work
for it.” “I just want to thanks all my sponsors and all the guy’s on the crew
they spent countless hours in the race shop this season and without them, we
wouldn’t be here right now.” Steven Axtell Jr. scored a career best third place
finish, Roland Mann was fourth and Ray Kable Jr. completed the top-five. Point
contender Jamie Lathroum quietly finished the main seventh. Heats for the 22-cars on
hand went to Scott Cross, Deese and Kable.

In the twenty-lap modified feature in was current point leader Brett Hamilton
scoring his 7th win of the season. The win for Hamilton was his third of the weekend
as he won at Potomac on Friday night and at Virginia Motor Speedway on Saturday
night. Gary Conner was second, James Marshall was third, James Snead took fourth and
Dan Arnold completed the top-five.

Other winners included Troy Kassiris who took his second win of the weekend and
fifth of the season in the 15-lap hobby stock event and Mark Digges who won his
first of the season in the 12-lap four cylinder contest. With his third place
finish, Greg Gunter was crowned the 2008 Four-cylinder track Champion.

“Lear Over Davis in S.M.A.R.T Series Thriller at Potomac”

Budds Creek, MD- Severn Maryland’s Kyle Lear continued his late season heroics as
he scored his third-straight 358 late model feature win in last Friday night’s
40-lap SMART Series event at Potomac speedway Courtesy of: Vera's Beach Club Restaurant & Marina, Three Mules Welding Supply's and Cameron Construction.

Derrick Quade and Allan Brannon brought the 26-car starting field down to the
initial waving of the green flag. Brannon blasted into the race lead from his second
starting spot and appeared to have the car to beat as he led the events first 24
circuits. While Brannon was leading, third starting Kyle Lear made his way to second
by the 4th lap. Unfortunately Brannon’s brilliant run came to a halt as mechanical
problems ended his night while leading on the 24th lap. Lear was in the right place
at the right time as he would be scored the leader on lap-25. Even though Lear would
eventually score the win, things got quite interesting behind him.

Jamie Lathroum, who spun earlier in the event and was forced to the rear, was on the
move. Lathroum charged through the field to enter the top-five by the 25th lap.
Lathroum then took the lead from Lear on lap-36. However, Lathroum’s chance at a
dramatic victory came to an end as he spun while leading on lap-38. Once again Kyle
Lear was in the right place as he held off the advances of Gerald Davis, who also
came from the rear, to post the biggest win of his career and his sixth overall win
of 2008.

“Alla
n (Brannon) had a really good car and I’m not sure if we would have been able to
get by him.” An elated Kyle Lear stated from Potomac’s victory lane. “We had a
good starting spot tonight and I’m glad we were able to win it, this is really big
for us.” Nineteenth -starting Greg Roberson was third, Ed Pope drove a great race
for fourth and Ronald Cusic completed the top-five. Heats for the stellar 31-car
field went to Brannon, Lear, Quade and Gerald Davis with Tommy Wagner Jr. winning
the consolation.

In the 16-lap street stock feature it was Kurt Zimmerman who posted his fourth
feature win of the season. Zimmerman started the event from the pole and would
eventually lead every lap. Ben Oliver scored a career best second place finish while
Barry Williams Sr. took third, Walt Homberg collected fourth and PJ Hatcher
completed the top-five.

In other action Brett Hamilton rolled to his sixth win of the season in the 20-lap
modified feature, Troy Kassiris took his fourth hobby stock win of the season in the
25-lap Dale Moore Sr. memorial and Larry Fuchs scored win number four in the 12-lap
four-cylinder feature.

Lear scores second straight at Potomac

Budds Creek MD- Severn Maryland's Kyle Lear scored his second consecutive Late Model Feature win of the season Friday Night August 22, 2008 at Potomac Speedway. Lear's victory was his fifth overall win of the 08 season as he has scored three Hagerstown Speedway Late Model Sportsman checkered flags this season as well.

Just like his win two weeks ago, Lear started the 25 lap main event from the pole position. Once again Lear made the most of his good fortune as he darted into the early lead at the drop of the green flag. As Lear lead easily, eventual runner-up Bruce Kane moved into second by lap 11. Despite three caution periods and some late race lapped traffic, Lear would lead all 25 circuits to post the win.

We made some monir changes to the car after the heat race, stated Lear. It definitely helps to start up front, because there were alot of good cars here tonight.Ronald Cusic scored a third place finish, one time winner Mike Latham was fourth, and Steven Axtell completed the top five. Heats for the 18 cars on hand went to Lear and Ed Pope.

In the 16 lap Coors Light Street Stock feature event Walt Homberg rolled to his second win of the season in tge last three weeks at the track. Homberg blasted from his pole starting spot to eventually lead every lap of the event. Former track champion Barry Williams Sr was second, P.J. Hatcher third, Jimmy Jesmer fourth and rounding out the top five was Barry Williams Jr.Heats for 21 car field went to Homberg and Jesmer.

In other action Current points leader Scotty Nelson claimed his fifth win of the season in the 15 lap Hobbystock main, John Sellner scored his second 20 lap Strictly Stock main and Buddy Dunagan collected win four in the Hornet main.

Kyle Lear takes Burroughs Memorial

Kyle Lear picked up his first career feature win Friday Night August 8, 2008 at Potomac Speedway claiming The Annual Henry Burroughs Late Model Memorial.Other winners included Walt Homeberg in The Coors Light Street Stock main, Rich Marks in the Modified main, Larry Fuchs in the Strictly Stock main, and Buddy Dunagan in the Hornets main. In the 30 lap Henry Burroughs Late Model main event it was front row starter Kyle Lear picking up his first ever career Potomac Speedway win. Kyle Lear and Corey Hanson lead the field to the green with Lear taking the top spot over third place starter Mann.Lear looked to be on cruise control as he was flawless leading all 30 laps Several cautions would fly to close the field but Lear was a man on a mission as he picked up the $1000.00 prize.Crossing the line second would be Roland Mann, third Derrick Quade, fourth Sommey Lacey and rounding out the top five was Mike Latham. Heats went to Lacey and Corey Hanson. In the 16 lap Coors Light Street Stock main event it was Walt Homberg picking up his first win of the season in his first start of the 08 season in a brand new ARC Race Car. Rick Marks would pick up the Modified main, Larry Fuchs picked up the Strictly Stock main, and Buddy Dunagan is the un-official Hornet main.
